That’s exactly what happened on this unforgettable evening, as the skies darkened and the air stood still, I witnessed one of the most genuine proposals I’ve ever had the honor of photographing.

The ring was ready and tucked away in his backpack, she (completely unaware of the impending question!) was all dolled up and ready for a dinner date following their sunset hike, and I was waiting at the top of the vista, precariously perched above a prickly pear in a deep squat, trying to avoid any unwelcome cactus splinters…as this young couple made their way to our chosen spot, I waited in secret spying on them in the reflection of my camera. You could feel the excitement building. Even the impending storm felt like it was in on the secret.
And then, it happened.
